ZUST Delegation Meets TİKA President During Official Visit to Türkiye, Reaffirming a Partnership Built on Impact

As part of its ongoing official visit to Türkiye, a delegation from Zamzam University of Science and Technology (ZUST) paid a formal visit to TİKA — the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency — one of the most consequential development partners in Somalia’s recent history. The delegation was warmly received by TİKA’s President, Mr. Abdullah Eren, setting the stage for a series of constructive and forward-looking discussions.

The visit served as both an opportunity to express ZUST’s deep appreciation for TİKA’s sustained contributions and to chart a course for continued collaboration that supports Somalia’s development priorities in the years ahead.

A partnership rooted in Somalia's development

The relationship between TİKA and ZUST is one that spans the university’s earliest years and has grown steadily alongside the institution itself. During the meeting, the ZUST delegation conveyed its sincere gratitude to TİKA for the agency’s remarkable portfolio of development projects in Somalia — contributions that have touched the lives of communities across the country and strengthened the institutional capacity of Zamzam University in meaningful and lasting ways.

TİKA's support has significantly contributed not only to ZUST's institutional development, but also to broader efforts in food security, skills development, innovation, and sustainable development in Somalia.

TİKA’s interventions at ZUST have spanned a broad spectrum of sectors, reflecting a holistic approach to development that goes well beyond infrastructure. The delegation highlighted the following areas of TİKA’s support:

Agriculture & food security

Greenhouses, farm machinery, and agricultural development initiatives to strengthen food production capacity.

Poultry
production

Support for hatchery-related facilities and other key contributions to ZUST's livestock development programmes.

Innovation & technology

Establishment of ZUST's Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab, advancing the university's technical education offering.

Innovation as a pillar of sustainable development

Among the highlights of the discussions was TİKA's support in advancing innovation and technology at ZUST — most notably through its contribution to the university's Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory. This facility represents a significant milestone in ZUST's academic journey, enabling students and researchers to engage with emerging technologies that are increasingly central to global economic development and scientific progress. The establishment of this laboratory reflects a shared understanding that sustainable development in Somalia requires investment not only in traditional sectors but also in the knowledge economy — equipping the next generation of Somali graduates with skills that are relevant, competitive, and forward-looking.
