Our Story

In 2012, Zamzam Foundation of Somalia and the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation of Türkiye established an agricultural training school in Somalia to enhance food security and promote sustainable farming through practical training in modern agricultural technologies. Building on its early success and contributions to agricultural development, the initiative was proposed for university status in 2013 and officially became Zamzam University of Science & Technology (ZUST) in 2014. The university launched its first Faculty of Agriculture with a curriculum designed to address Somalia’s agricultural and environmental challenges while aligning with international academic standards.

2012

An Agricultural School was established to train farmers and field professionals in modern agricultural practices, addressing food production challenges and laid the academic and institutional foundation for the University.

2014

The institution was formally elevated to university status, beginning with the Faculty of Agriculture and the introduction of structured higher education programs designed to meet national development needs.

2015-2017

The University expanded to a new main campus and established the Faculties of Medicine & Surgery, Health Sciences and Engineering, strengthening its academic structure and increasing its capacity to deliver multidisciplinary education.

2017-2019

The University inaugurated the Baidoa Campus, Jowhar Campus, established the main University Library, and introduced the Faculties of Computer and Information Science and Business and Management, strengthening its academic structure and expanding access to higher education.

2020-2022

ZUST advanced its research capacity through the establishment of specialized centers, including the Techno Park, the Poultry Center and the Center for Sustainable Agriculture & Environmental Studies (SAES), alongside major academic initiatives and conferences.

2022

In 2022, ZUST expanded its academic offerings through the establishment of postgraduate studies, introducing advanced programs aimed at strengthening research, professional specialization, and graduate-level academic development.

2024

The University commenced its 10th Anniversary, marking a decade of sustained academic growth, institutional expansion, and continued contribution to education and national progress.

Since its establishment, ZUST has significantly expanded its academic offerings. Today, the university provides degree programs in various fields including medicine and health sciences, engineering, Business and management, and computer science. With campuses across Banadir, South-West State, and Hirshabelle, ZUST is uniquely positioned to serve a diverse student body and contribute meaningfully to Somalia’s reconstruction and development through education, research, and community engagement.
