Zamzam University of Science and Technology (ZUST) plays a leading role in promoting cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Somalia. The University regularly organizes and participates in multi-stakeholder forums, conferences, and policy consultations that bring together government agencies, international organizations, private-sector actors, and civil-society groups to advance shared sustainability goals.
University-Led SDG Conferences and Forums
ZUST has hosted and co-organized several landmark events that serve as national dialogue platforms on sustainable development. Notably, the University’s Annual SDG Dialogue Forum and Somali Conference on Agricultural Science (SOCAS) convene policymakers, researchers, NGOs, and community leaders to exchange knowledge on climate action, food security, education, and poverty reduction. These events strengthen alignment between academia, government, and development partners on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Collaboration with Government and Development Partners
ZUST works closely with ministries such as the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, as well as international and regional partners including UNESCO, RUFORUM, IOFS, and TIKA. Through these collaborations, the University contributes research, policy advice, and technical expertise to national discussions on sustainability, climate resilience, and higher-education development.
Cross-Sectoral Engagement for SDG Implementation
The University’s engagement extends beyond academia through partnerships with humanitarian and private-sector organizations. Joint dialogues with NGOs such as NRC, SOS Somalia, Action Against Hunger, IHH and the Zamzam Foundation address issues such as poverty alleviation, food security, and youth employment. These partnerships enable ZUST to integrate the SDGs into both community-level initiatives and institutional policy planning.
Impact
Through its cross-sectoral dialogue initiatives, ZUST fosters mutual understanding, shared responsibility, and collaborative action toward achieving the SDGs. The University’s consistent leadership in convening diverse stakeholders underscores its role as a national platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and sustainable development partnership.
