Zamzam University of Science and Technology (ZUST) extends its commitment to quality education beyond its own campus through outreach and capacity-building programs that support teachers, school leaders, and young learners in the wider community. These initiatives aim to strengthen teaching quality, promote safe technology use, and encourage digital innovation in Somali schools.
Teacher Training and Digital-Skills Program
ZUST conducted a one-week training program for primary and middle-school teachers and principals on classroom technology and safe digital practices. The sessions focused on effective use of Google Classroom, artificial-intelligence tools, and digital-safety methods tailored to improve student learning outcomes.
The training combined practical demonstrations with peer-learning activities, helping educators integrate modern technology into lesson planning and assessment. At the conclusion, 49 participants received certificates recognizing their completion of the program.
Student-Led Community Engagement
In addition to faculty-led sessions, voluntary ZUST students visited selected local schools to guide both teachers and pupils on safe and responsible technology use. These student volunteers provided demonstrations on digital literacy, internet ethics, and how to protect personal data online. Their participation encouraged knowledge exchange and fostered a spirit of community service among ZUST students.
Impact
The outreach program strengthened links between higher education and community schools, improving digital readiness and teaching quality across the partner institutions. By equipping teachers with modern tools and creating awareness of safe technology, ZUST contributed directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
