Zamzam University of Science and Technology (ZUST) has taken a significant step in expanding its global academic footprint by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Konya Technical University (KTU), one of Türkiye’s leading institutions of higher education. The agreement formalizes a strategic partnership between the two universities, with the shared objective of strengthening cooperation across education, research, and institutional development.
The MoU was concluded during an official visit to Konya, where a ZUST delegation — led by Rector Dr. Mohamud Harbi and Deputy Rector — met with the leadership of Konya Technical University, headed by Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik. Senior officials from both institutions were also in attendance, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the mutual commitment to building a long-term academic relationship.
A Partnership Built on Shared Vision
The discussions held during the visit were wide-ranging and forward-looking. Both delegations explored concrete avenues for collaboration, with particular emphasis on academic exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, and innovation-driven projects that align with the strategic priorities of both institutions.
This partnership reflects ZUST's steadfast commitment to building meaningful international ties that expand opportunities for Somali students and contribute to the advancement of global higher education.
For ZUST, the partnership with KTU represents more than a formal agreement — it is a meaningful investment in the future of Somali higher education. By connecting with an internationally recognised university, ZUST is creating pathways for its students and faculty to engage with global academic communities, access cutting-edge research environments, and broaden their intellectual horizons.
Expanding Opportunities for Somali Students
At the heart of this MoU is a shared commitment to student development and academic mobility. The partnership is expected to facilitate faculty development initiatives, enabling ZUST’s academic staff to engage with international best practices in pedagogy and research methodology. The two universities also aim to explore collaborative degree programmes and joint publication opportunities in the medium term.
ZUST has steadily grown its network of international partnerships in recent years, reflecting the university’s broader vision of positioning itself as a leading institution in the East African region and beyond. The MoU with KTU is the latest milestone in this ongoing effort and signals a deepening of ties between Somalia and Türkiye in the domain of higher education.
Looking Ahead
Both institutions have expressed strong intent to operationalise the terms of the MoU in the near future, with joint committees expected to be established to coordinate activities, monitor progress, and ensure that the partnership delivers tangible outcomes for students, researchers, and academic staff on both sides.
ZUST remains committed to fostering international collaboration that is purposeful, sustainable, and aligned with its institutional mission — to provide world-class education that empowers the next generation of Somali leaders, innovators, and scholars.
